News: Rabbit Breeders Having 26 Baby Rabbits

If you have looked after baby rabbits before, you would know how much effort that entails. Most rabbit does will give birth to a litter of 6 to 13 kittens. Furthermore, rabbit mom spent very little time to nurse the young and to ensure the chance of survival for the baby rabbits, human owners have to play surrogate parents.

In Lancashire, a rabbit breeder, Denise McGill has to care for 26 baby rabbits. The breeder has to cope with simultaneous arrival of three litters of baby rabbits. First, the continental giant rabbits Jemima, weighing 9 kg when pregnant, gave birth to a litter of 14 kittens but one died.

On the same day, their other rabbit, Alice, gave birth to 9 baby rabbits. Shortly afterwards, another of their rabbit, Millie, had a litter of four kittens.

Mrs McGill said: “For the rabbits to give birth to so many kits and bring them up is absolutely incredible.”

All the baby rabbits will eventually be re-homed when they grow older. The baby rabbits have been drinking a liter of goat’s milk everyday and consuming 25 kg sack of rabbit food on every other day.
